Allison Goldsmith, Certified Personal Trainer and Cancer Exercise Specialist

I always loved to exercise and found ways to stay active. As a teenager, I fell in love with yoga, barre, spin, and high-intensity interval training. Fitness played a huge role in my physical, mental and emotional health.

I learned through the powers of exercise that I can make myself feel better even when life is extra hard. I decided to take my passion for feeling happy and healthy and share it with others. Especially for people going through a difficult time in their life.

Sadly, cancer touches all of our lives in some type of way and is one of the leading causes of death in America. Studies show that a regular safe exercise program can reduce cancer pain and fatigue, improve treatment tolerance, and prevent damage to the organs following radiation, chemotherapy and other treatments. So why aren’t more doctors prescribing an exercise program? Well, the Aunt Sister Project is filling in this huge gap, and I am honored to be a part of this imperative mission. Watching my ASP students get stronger and consistently show up for themselves and each other makes my heart full.

Abigail "Abby" Kaufmann, Certified Personal Trainer and Yoga Instructor

I have always been an active person. I played many sports in school and stayed on my toes with 30 years of work in restaurants. Over ten years ago, I got interested in Yoga, which led to a teacher training. What I loved about Yoga was that I felt stronger and more mobile in my body. However, after a few years, I realized that some people needed a more efficient way to get stronger in their body. I added certifications as personal trainer, group fitness instructor, mat Pilates, pre and post-natal yoga, training and group fitness, Yoga for cancer warriors, Yoga for older adults, kettlebell basics and TRX basics.

My mom was diagnosed with colon cancer about 15 years ago. From that moment, I wanted to do whatever I could to help her stay active. I know research supports that even showing up for a breathing practice can improve attitudes and outcomes for people living with cancer. Over five years ago, a client of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer. We continued to work together throughout her process, and I was inspired to do the Yoga4Cancer certification with Tari Prinster. Once I was certified, I started volunteering at Hope Lodge, which is a hotel where people can stay free of charge while receiving treatment. I love creating personalized programs for people and for groups, especially if they are coming back from illness or injury. I had two grandparents that lived past 100. It is crucial to care for your body so you can stay active and feel good!
